A male fan was recovering Sunday after being hit in the head by a foul ball hit by St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday during the team's 9-2 rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

The fan, who was sitting along the right-field line, was left bleeding after being struck Saturday during the third inning at Dodger Stadium.

Umpires halted the game as paramedics attended to him, fitting a neck brace before taking him out of the stadium on a stretcher. The man showed clear signs of movement and was applauded by fans as he was carried out.

The Dodgers confirmed that he was taken to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center but gave no details on his condition.
