Eovaldi strong again, Yankees beat Phillies 3-2
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Nathan Eovaldi gave up two hits over four shutout innings, and the New York Yankees beat a Philadelphia Phillies split squad 3-2 Sunday.
Eovaldi retired seven in a row before Cameron Rupp flared a single to center in the third. Cody Asche singled to center during the fourth.
''For the most part I was able to throw all four of my pitches,'' Eovaldi said.
Eovaldi, acquired from Miami in December, went 6-14 with a 4.37 ERA in 33 starts last year. In three outings this spring, the right-hander has given up one run and seven hits in nine innings.
''Really good,'' Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. ''We're really excited to have him in camp.''
Eovaldi had three strikeouts, throwing 38 of 45 pitches for strikes.
''Pretty good ... especially for me,'' he said.
Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez grounded out and walked. A-Rod is 6 for 17 (.353) with four walks overall. Chase Headley hit a solo homer.
Domonic Brown had an RBI single in three at-bats for the Phillies. Ben Revere went 1 for 2.
