Earl postpones ChiSox at BoSox

The game has been rescheduled for Saturday afternoon as the first installment of a day-night doubleheader. The night game between the Red Sox and White Sox will be played, as scheduled, at 7:10 p.m. ET.

"The decision to postpone tonight's game was made in consultation with Major League Baseball and in consideration of the Governor’s state of emergency declaration. The Red Sox and Major League Baseball feel it is better to err on the side of public safety even if the current weather forecast dramatically changes its course," the Red Sox said in a statement.

A hurricane warning was in effect for areas of Massachusetts from Woods Hole eastward around Cape Cod to Sagamore Beach and a tropical storm warning was in effect for the U.S. East Coast from Ocracoke, N.C., to Sandy Hook, N.J., and portions of Long Island, Massachusetts, Maine and Nova Scotia.

Ramirez, a nine-time Silver Slugger winner played in Boston for eight seasons, helping in 2004 to bring the team its first World Series championship since 1918.

But the unusual and moody star eventually grew lazy and alienated fans with unprofessional antics such as constant trade demands and sitting out games. The Red Sox traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers midway through the 2008 season.

In August, the White Sox claimed Ramirez off waivers from Los Angeles after the Dodgers released him.
