Duty calls: Cardinals promote Naval Academy grad Harris
Mitch Harris made major-league history on Tuesday for the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals called up Harris, a reliever prospect, from Triple-A Memphis. That makes Harris the first Naval Academy graduate in the majors since 1921.
Fittingly, he will be in the nation's capital, where the Cardinals are beginning a three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

Harris, a 13th-round pick by the team in 2008, has posted a 2.45 ERA in four Triple-A appearances this season. Last season, he was 2-2 with a 3.95 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 42 appearances (57 innings) in three different levels of the Cardinals' minor-league system.
The 29-year-old Harris joined the Cardinals in February of 2013 after completing his service with the Navy. During that time, he sailed aboard the USS Ponce in the Persian Gulf, conducted drug stings in South America and served on diplomatic assignment in Russia, according to MLB.com.
