Dustin Pedroia explains his first sac bunt in three years
By Ricky Doyle
Dustin Pedroia dropped down a sacrifice bunt Monday against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
Seriously.
Pedroia, who hadn’t had a sac bunt in nearly three years, pushed one up the first base line in the third inning of the Boston Red Sox’s 7-1 win. The bunt came amid a four-run inning for the Red Sox, who earned a victory after the umpires called the game in the seventh inning due to inclement weather.
“Because it was negative-30 and raining,” Pedroia said when asked about the bunt, according to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford.
Makes sense, even though Pedroia clearly was being sarcastic.
Pedroia’s sacrifice bunt, which advanced Ryan Hanigan and Mookie Betts, was his first since July 19, 2012, against the Miami Marlins, when the Red Sox second baseman bunted over Mike Aviles.
