Dodgers release LHP Stults

Published Mar. 31, 2010 7:17 p.m. ET

The Dodgers released left-hander Eric Stults on Wednesday, paving the way for him to join a team in Japan.

Stults was scratched from his start Tuesday and did not work out with the team, but no official word was given for the move.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the Dodgers sold Stults' contract to the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Japan's Central League. He was out of minor-league options and would have had to pass through regular waivers to remain with the organization.

When spring training started, Stults was battling for the fifth starter spot, but he fell short in that bid. He has an 8-10 career record with a 4.84 ERA.
