Dodgers OF Puig (thumb) not in lineup for finale vs Giants

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig is not in the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup for Sunday night's series finale against San Francisco because of a swollen left thumb.

Puig left Dodger Stadium prior to the game to get an MRI exam. He was hurt Saturday making a headfirst slide into first base on an infield single. He finished that game, flying out with the bases loaded in the seventh. X-rays taken after the game were negative.

The Dodgers had Andre Ethier in right field, Matt Kemp in center and Carl Crawford in left with Scott Van Slyke on the bench. Mattingly didn't rule out the possibility of using Puig as a pinch-hitter.

Puig was benched for Friday's home opener because he was late getting to the stadium.
