Dodgers get five straight hits - and no runs

The Los Angeles Dodgers pounded out five straight hits against the San Diego Padres on Monday night - and scored no runs out of them.

The Dodgers got two-out singles from Matt Kemp, James Loney and Casey Blake in the first inning, but Loney was thrown out at third base by center fielder Chris Denorfia before Kemp nonchalantly crossed the plate, and umpire Ted Barrett signaled his run didn't count.

Andre Ethier and Russell Martin opened the second with singles and advanced on a groundout, but Hiroki Kuroda struck out and newly acquired Scott Podsednik flied out.

It was the second time this season the Dodgers lost a run because someone eased up before the plate and another runner was thrown out. It also happened in Anaheim on June 23, only that time it was the final out in a 2-1 loss.
