Dodgers activate Kemp, Ethier from DL
The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated star outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier from the disabled list Friday, and they have optioned outfielders Elian Herrera and Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Kemp, hitting .355 with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs, missed 51 of the Dodgers' previous 53 games because of a left hamstring strain. They were 24-27 in his absence.
Kemp appeared in six rehab games with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga and Albuquerque, then participated in the Home Run Derby on Monday. But he sat out the All-Star game after being voted as one of the starting outfielders.
Ethier batting .291 with 10 homers and a team-high 55 RBIs, had been sidelined since June 28 because of an oblique strain on his left side. He had a two-game rehab stint with Rancho Cucamonga.
Herrera, who has started at five different positions with the Dodgers, was batting .243 with a homer and 16 RBI in 51 games. Van Slyke was hitting .167 with two home runs and seven RBI in 27 games with Los Angeles.
