Diamondbacks activate C Laird, designate him for assignment

CINCINNATI (AP) The Arizona Diamondbacks activated catcher Gerald Laird from the 60-day disabled list and designated him for assignment on Thursday.

The 35-year-old had been on the disabled list since April 9 with lower back spasms. He hit .308 with four RBIs in 10 games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno.
