The Detroit Tigers have activated Victor Martinez off the 15-day disabled list. The team announced the move Thursday night.

Martinez is expected to play in the weekend series against the New York Yankees.

"He said he feels good," manager Brad Ausmus told reporters Wednesday night. "He seemed to feel like he was ready."

The designated hitter has been sidelined with left knee inflammation since May 19. To make room on the 25-man roster, the team optioned outfielder Tyler Collins to Triple-A.

Martinez went 5-for-17 in his four-game rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers have received good reports on him throughout the assignment, from running to swinging left-handed, which was the main reason he was sidelined just over a month ago.

He went 4-for-14 hitting left-handed for the Mud Hens. Hitting right-handed, he went 1-for-3.

The 36-year-old veteran is hitting .215 with one home run and 15 RBI this season.
