The Chicago Cubs have signed outfielder Albert Almora, their first-round selection and No. 6 overall pick from last month's draft.

The 18-year-old Almora, played prep baseball at Mater Academy Charter in Hialeah Gardens, Fla., and had considered going to the University of Miami. He got a $3.9 million signing bonus and will report to the team's minor league complex in Mesa, Ariz.

Almora, who throws and bats right-handed, hit .603 with six homers, 34 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 25 games for Mater Academy last season.

He is the Cubs' second big signing this summer. Earlier they reached a deal with Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
