Cubs rookie Kris Bryant leaves game after headfirst slide

Published Aug. 2, 2015 4:10 p.m. ET

MILWAUKEE (AP) Chicago Cubs rookie third baseman Kris Bryant has left Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers following a headfirst slide at second base.

Bryant singled home Kyle Schwarber in the top of the fifth to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead and he tried for second after the Brewers threw home.

The play was cut off and the Brewers tried to get Bryant at second. Shortstop Jean Segura appeared to tag Bryant on his helmet, before Bryant's neck or upper back appeared to hit Segura's leg on the slide.

A safe call was upheld following a Brewers replay challenge. Bryant was removed from the game for pinch-runner Jonathan Herrera.
