Cubs prospect Javier Baez expected to be called up, make debut Tuesday
The Chicago Cubs are going to call up infield prospect Javier Baez, and he is expected to make his major league debut Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.
Baez is one of the Cubs' top two prospects and is batting .260 with 23 HR and 80 RBI in 104 games at Triple-A Iowa. The season-long wait is over for fans and for Baez himself, who was drafted ninth overall in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
Baez has long been lusted over by the Wrigley faithful and baseball fans alike for his incredibly fast hands and effortless power -- especially at a position where a power bat is a rare find. Baez has been playing second base and shortstop at Iowa. With Starlin Castro cemented as the team's shortstop, Baez will likely replace Arismendy Alcantara at second base for the immediate future.
