Cubs lefty Jon Lester hasn't allowed a hit thru 6 innings
CHICAGO (AP) Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester hasn't allowed a hit through six innings against the San Francisco Giants.
Lester walked Buster Posey with two outs in the first inning and has followed by setting down 16 straight Friday. The Cubs lead 2-0 and Lester has thrown 66 pitches and has struck out three.
Third baseman Kris Bryant made a diving, backhand grab of Brandon Crawford's liner to lead off the fifth and Dexter Fowler made a sliding catch of pinch-hitter Kelby Tomlinson's liner in center to squash San Francisco's best chances for a hit.
The Giants have been held hitless in 12 consecutive innings dating to Thursday's 5-4 loss to Chicago.
The 32-year-old Lester is seeking his second career no-hitter. He accomplished the feat on May 19, 2008, for Boston against Kansas City. That came less than two years after he was diagnosed with cancer.
