The Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract of infielder Darwin Barney from Triple-A Iowa.

Barney is in uniform for Thursday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants. He takes the place of Mike Fontenot, who was traded to the Giants on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Barney leads all of Triple-A with 142 hits this season. He is batting .297 with 24 doubles and 71 runs scored in 113 games at Iowa.

Barney will become the ninth Cubs player to make his major league debut this season.
