Published May. 1, 2011 3:54 p.m. ET

St. Louis second baseman Nick Punto has been removed from the Cardinals' game against the Braves due to tightness in his left hamstring.

The team announced Punto left Sunday's game in the top of the fourth inning as a precaution. Daniel Descalso replaced him at second base.

Punto was batting leadoff and opened the game with a single and scored on Matt Holliday's double in the first inning. Punto struck out in the second inning.
