Brewers decline Looper's $6.5M 2010 option

Looper will receive a $1 million buyout. He is now eligible to file for free agency.

Looper went 14-7 with a 5.22 ERA in 34 starts this year. If the team had picked up its option, Looper would have had the right to void it and forfeit his buyout.

Milwaukee, which doesn't have a large payroll, was already in the market for starting pitching. That search will likely intensify now.
