Brewers call up OF Gindl to replace Braun

The Brewers have called up outfielder Caleb Gindl to replace the injured Ryan Braun before the second game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Gindl will be the sixth player to make his major league debut with Milwaukee this season. He batted .274 for Triple-A Nashville with 15 doubles, eight homers and 38 RBIs.

The Brewers put Braun on the 15-day disabled list after their 4-3, 10-inning loss Friday night. Braun tried to take batting practice before the game, but was bothered by a sore right thumb that has sidelined him since last Sunday.

Braun is batting .304 with nine homers and 36 RBIs. He won the NL's Most Valuable Player award in 2011 and finished second to San Francisco's Buster Posey last year.
