Brewers 6, Cardinals 4
ST. LOUIS -- Domingo Santana's first homer of the season snapped a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday night and gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 6-4 decision over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
The right fielder cranked an 0-1 fastball from reliever Trevor Rosenthal (0-1) 440 feet into the seats in deep right-center, scoring pinch-hitter Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who drew a two-out walk.
Closer Jeremy Jeffress worked the ninth for his fourth save as Milwaukee (4-4) snapped St. Louis' four-game winning streak, dropping the Cardinals to 4-4.
Pinch-hitter Brandon Moss wiped out the Brewers' 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth, jumping on a meaty 0-2 off-speed pitch from reliever Michael Blazek (1-0) and lining a 421-foot homer into the right-center-field seats.
It was Moss' second homer of the year and the Cardinals' fourth pinch-homer of the season, matching their total for all of 2015.
Neither starter was involved in the decision. Milwaukee right-hander Chase Anderson pitched six innings, giving up four hits and three unearned runs with two walks and four strikeouts. St. Louis' Mike Leake also pitched six innings, yielding eight hits and four runs while walking one and whiffing six.
Milwaukee got the scoring going in the top of the first on a two-out ground-rule double to right by Jonathan Lucroy, plating Santana.
St. Louis responded with three unearned runs in its half of the first, thanks to a two-out throwing error by third baseman Colin Walsh on Stephen Piscotty's grounder. Randal Grichuk laced a two-run double to the wall in left and Yadier Molina plated Grichuk with a single.
The Brewers pulled within 3-2 in the fourth when Ramon Flores stroked a two-out RBI single to center, scoring Lucroy. Milwaukee produced two runs in the fifth, Lucroy's single up the middle tying it and Chris Carter's double off the right-field wall putting it ahead.
