The Atlanta Braves have signed 41-year-old right-hander Miguel Batista to a minor league contract.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Batista ''is going to add some depth for us, just in case.'' Gonzalez says Batista will be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Batista was 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA in 30 games, including five starts, with the New York Mets this season. He was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday and cleared waivers on Friday.

Batista had 31 saves for Toronto in 2005. His best season as a starter came in 2007, when he won 16 games with Seattle. He fell to 4-14 with Seattle the following season. He is 102-114 with a 4.49 ERA in his long career, which began with one appearance for Pittsburgh in 1992.
