Braves shut down Minor with inflamed left shoulder

Published Sep. 23, 2014 5:18 p.m. ET

ATLANTA (AP) Braves left-hander Mike Minor has been shut down for the rest of the season after tests revealed inflammation in his pitching shoulder.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez says Minor should be ready for the start of spring training. Gonzalez says a MRI on Monday showed no structural damage.

David Hale will take Minor's next scheduled start against Pittsburgh on Thursday. Minor's final numbers were disappointing: 6-12 with a 4.77 ERA. He lasted only one inning against the Mets on Saturday.

Minor was 13-9 with a 3.21 ERA in 2013. He had urinary tract surgery Dec. 31, pushing back his spring schedule. He developed shoulder soreness and missed the first month of the season.

Gonzalez says Minor may have ''aggravated'' the shoulder by pushing to make up for his late start to spring training.
