Boston SS Marco Scutaro sidelined with illness

Red Sox shortstop Marco Scutaro was scratched just before the start of Boston's series finale against the San Diego Padres because he was ill.

Scutaro was replaced in the lineup Wednesday by rookie Drew Sutton, who was inserted into the same spot in the batting order - seventh.

Scutaro missed nearly a month with strained left oblique. He is hitting . 375 and has scored 11 runs since coming off the 15-day disabled list June 7.

Sutton has a .314 average in 17 games. He was recalled for the second time this season on Friday.
