Blue Jays hire Derek Shelton as quality control coach

TORONTO (AP) Derek Shelton is joining the Toronto Blue Jays as quality control coach.

The 46-year-old, whose hiring was announced Monday, was hitting coach for Cleveland (2005-09) and Tampa Bay (2010-16).

He began his coaching career in the New York Yankees organization in 1997 and compiled a 121-73 record in three seasons with the Gulf Coast League Yankees and Staten Island.
