Billy Hamilton's ridiculous speed gives Reds a thrilling walk-off win
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton might not be the most feared hitter, but when he does reach base the slender speedster can cause absolute havoc. He gave us another reminder of that Sunday against the Brewers.
With two out in the ninth in a scoreless game, Hamilton was on second base, representing the winning run. Hamilton took off for third and stole it without a throw. One pitch later, Brewers reliever Will Smith crossed up All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who couldn't corral the pitch.
The ball squirted away from Lucroy, who quickly slid to it and threw to Smith as he tried to cover home. Hamilton, who is hitting just .238 this year, was already sliding for the plate by this time, scoring the only run in dramatic fashion.
"Billy is that guy," Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters after the game. "He affects the game. He changes the look of the game. He creates a lot of anxiety on the basepaths. That ball didn't get that far away from Lucroy. That ability of his to start and stop creates the opportunity."
