Beimel agrees to minor league deal with Pirates

Left-hander Joe Beimel and the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a minor league contract.

Beimel would get a $1.75 million, one-year deal if added to the Pirates' 40-man roster under Friday's agreement

The reliever was 1-2 with a 3.40 ERA in 71 games with Colorado last season, his second year in a row with at least 70 appearances and his fifth consecutive season with 60 or more.

Beimel made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2001 and was 10-20 in 23 starts and 141 relief appearances for Pittsburgh over three seasons. He has a 23-31 career record with a 4.61 ERA, also pitching for Minnesota (2004), Tampa Bay (2005), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2006-08), Washington (2009) and Colorado (2009-10).
