Braves, Rangers interested in Tyson Ross?

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Go to Texas, go to Texas, go to Texas, go anywhere other than Atlanta.  This would not be a good signing for the Braves.  Price range is way to high for the caliber of a pitcher Ross is.  The 29-year-old had an All-Star year in 2014, but had a down year in 2015 and in 2016 he suffered shoulder inflammation on Opening Day and never pitched again that year. Could he be a solid starter in the MLB in 2017?  Possibly, but hopefully it’s not for the Braves.  He’s not the “ace” caliber pitcher the Braves are looking for and we really don’t have room for him in the rotation.  Oh yeah, did I mention his price tag?  Yeah…Braves should stay away.  I’m guessing John Coppolella called about a price tag and then he hung up after Tyson’s agent told him.

The Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves are both interested free-agent right-hander Tyson Ross, according to reports.

Grant tweets that he has heard Ross is asking for a deal in the range of $9 million to $11 million that might not include incentives.

On Monday, Padres GM A.J. Preller told MLB.com’s A.J. Cassavell that there’s“mutual interest” in a new deal with Ross. San Diego did not offer the right-hander a contract by last Friday’s non-tender deadline.

Padres, Reds Could Be Busy For Different Reasons

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Rule 5 Draft is today starting at 9AM.  Baseball America tried their best at putting together a list of “top names” available for the Rule 5 Draft today.  It’s tough because this draft is all about team needs.  Braves pick fifth this morning and could not pick anyone.  Right now, the Braves 40-man roster is full, but they can shed some weight if the player is there that they want.  JJ Cooper talked about third baseman Eric Wood as a possibility, but as of now the Braves could not pick anyone.

UPDATE: The Braves selected right-handed pitcher Armando Rivero from the Chicago Cubs with the #5 pick.  The Braves have released Williams Perez to make room on the 40-man roster.  In 67.2 innings pitched in 2016, he posted a 2.13 ERA in 43 appearances with Cubs Triple-A organization.  The 28-year-old had 105 strikeouts and 35 walks.

Lefthander Ismael Guillon (Reds): Potential lefty reliever who has starting experience too, holds runners well and has solid stuff.

Shortstop Zach Vincej (Reds): Reliable shortstop who hit better than he has before in the Arizona Fall League.

Righthander Francisco Rios (Blue Jays): Rios, a 2016 Futures Gamer, might not be major league ready, but much like Luis Perdomo (a Padres’ Rule 5 pick last year), he has enough upside and pitchability to be interesting.

Kemp Selling LA Home

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Sounds like Matt Kemp is ready to call Atlanta his home!  We welcome you home, big guy!  Kemp grew up in Oklahoma, but grew up an Atlanta Braves fan.  The 32-year-old is signed thru 2019 with an 8-year contract worth $160 million.  The Padres traded Kemp to the Braves on July 30, 2016 and he had a fantastic final two months of the 2016 season.

Braves outfielder Matt Kemp has listed his California “dream house” for sale for $11.5 million, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The article describes the house as five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, 15,884 square feet, on almost four acres of land in the San Diego suburb of Poway.

The Journal notes that Kemp bought the mansion in 2013 and did extensive renovations, including adding “a movie-theater style concessions stand near the home theater and a barbershop room.”
