Astros triple 3 times in 1st inning against Nats

Published Apr. 19, 2012 9:06 p.m. ET

The Houston Astros tripled three times in the first inning of their game against the Washington Nationals on Thursday night - the first time they've ever tripled three times in an inning.

The triple trio ties a team record for most in a game. Houston has done it 13 times, but not since July 2, 1997.

The triples by Jose Altuve, Brian Bogusevic and Matt Downs were part of a five-run first inning off Washington starter Edwin Jackson. Bogusevic's and Downs' were back-to-back.

According to STATS LLC, the MLB record for most triples in an inning is five set by the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 15, 1901.
