Astros' Scott Feldman has knee surgery, out six weeks
The Houston Astros will be without veteran starting pitcher Scott Feldman for a while, as underwent arthroscopic surgery on Friday to mend a torn medial meniscus in his knee.
According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, Feldman suffered the injury on Tuesday during his scheduled start against the Baltimore Orioles.
As a result of the operation, Feldman will require some time to heal before he gets back on the mound. The Astros are preparing to deal with life without him for approximately six weeks, according to team officials.
McTaggart quoted manager A.J. Hinch as speaking to the void this creates in the Astros' rotation: "His quality starts will be missed. He's a real stable part of our club, and to lose him for five or six weeks is a tough blow. It is time for the next guy to step up and do his part to keep moving forward. I'm always happy handing the ball to Feldman every five days. This will be a little setback we'll have to overcome."
So far in 2015, Feldman is 4-4 with a 4.80 ERA in ten 2015 starts.
In Feldman's absence, the Astros could turn to young pitchers such as Brett Oberholtzer, Lance McCullers, Jr., or Brad Peacock...but should Feldman experience any setbacks, one has to wonder if the club might look to the trade market for a consistent and proven starting pitcher (as MLB Trade Rumors suggests).
