Astros' Feldman out for season with shoulder injury

Published Sep. 11, 2015 1:59 p.m. ET

HOUSTON (AP) Houston starter Scott Feldman will miss the rest of the season with a sprained right shoulder.

Feldman left his Sept. 1 start against Seattle in the third inning with shoulder discomfort. Houston hoped he could return after missing a start, but after an MRI on Thursday general manager Jeff Luhnow decided he would be shut down for the year.

The AL West-leading Astros say he will begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

This is the second injury this season for Feldman, who missed about two months after arthroscopic knee surgery. He was 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 18 starts.
