Jason Bourgeois couldn't help that Wandy Rodriguez wouldn't factor into the decision after a stellar night on the mound.

Still, he wanted to make sure the Houston Astros didn't totally waste the lefty's excellent performance on Saturday night.

Bourgeois singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning and Astros beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 after Rodriguez pitched eight scoreless innings and closer Brandon Lyon gave up a game-tying homer to Prince Fielder.

''No doubt ... Wandy pitched his heart out tonight,'' Bourgeois said. ''I was hoping we would get a couple in the eighth just to make it comfortable in the ninth for Lyon. But things happened the way they did and I'm just happy with the win.''

Kameron Loe (2-2) walked pinch-hitter Brett Wallace and Michael Bourn with two outs. Bourgeois followed with his career-high third hit, and pinch-runner Bill Hall scored.

''To get the two outs like that and ... to walk one guy in that situation is bad, but to walk two in a row is not good,'' Loe said. ''I could say a lot of things, but there's no excuse to walk two in that situation.''

Bourgeois also doubled and stole two bases.

Fielder's sixth homer of the season was a solo shot with one out in the ninth. Casey McGehee singled after that, but Lyon retired the next two batters to get out of the inning.

Rodriguez yielded seven hits, walked none and struck out six in his longest outing of the season. Rodriguez, who has just one win this season, was disappointed he couldn't add to his total.

''It was a beautiful game and I threw very good balls, so I wanted to win the game,'' he said.

Saturday's performance was the latest in a string of great outings against the Brewers for Rodriguez at Minute Maid Park. He has a 0.89 ERA in eight career outings, seven starts, against Milwaukee at home.

Houston manager Brad Mills hopes Rodriguez can build on what he did Saturday.

''Once he knows he can do it, he gets that confidence and starts throwing pitches with conviction and that's pretty special,'' Mills said. ''He's got a pretty special arm.''

Bourgeois singled and scored Houston's other run in the first inning on a Milwaukee error.

Brewers starter Randy Wolf allowed four hits and one run in seven innings.

The Astros had a chance to add to the lead in the eighth with two outs and runners on first and second, but Chris Johnson grounded out.

Carlos Gomez doubled with two outs in the Milwaukee eighth, but was thrown out at third when he tried to take an extra base after shortstop Clint Barmes bobbled the relay from Bourn. Gomez beat the ground with his hand in disgust as he got up from the slide.

Rodriguez had retired five straight when Ryan Braun doubled with one out in the sixth inning, but he retired the next two batters before pitching a perfect seventh.

''Tonight the key was my breaking ball,'' Rodriguez said. ''I was excellent in my changeup and that was a lot of my game tonight.''

He said he was too spent to return for the ninth inning and thinks throwing 126 pitches in his last outing contributed to his fatigue.

The Brewers had trouble stringing together hits against Rodriguez and only managed more than one in an inning off him in the third when Wolf and Rickie Weeks hit consecutive singles with one out. Rodriguez got out of that jam by retiring Gomez and Braun.

''When you are facing a pitcher that caliber, you are not going to get that many opportunities,'' Braun said. ''So if you don't take advantage of the hits you do get, it's going to be a tough night.''

Bourgeois scored to make it 1-0 when Pence reached on McGehee's wild throw from third base.

NOTES: Milwaukee RHP Zack Greinke, who began the season on the disabled list with a broken rib, will come off the disabled list and start on Wednesday at Atlanta. ... The return of Milwaukee RHP Takashi Saito, who is on the disabled list with a left hamstring injury, will be pushed back after he strained his left side in a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Nashville. ... Mills said Saturday that he was moving fifth starter Nelson Figueroa to the bullpen and replacing him in the rotation with RHP Aneury Rodriguez.
