A's Burns commits serious theft vs. Rangers with two amazing catches

BY foxsports • June 12, 2015

The legend of Billy Burns is growing.

The speedy Oakland Athletics outfielder continued his impressive run on Thursday afternoon, making two highlight-reel catches to rob the Texas Rangers of some extra-base hits (and, probably, runs).

Burns has already made his presence felt as a catalyst atop the A's lineup, but he's also making jaw-dropping plays on defense that could very well help put him in the Rookie of the Year conversation.

As for Thursday: His first catch, robbing Delino DeShields of a hit in the gap, came in the sixth inning of a 1-0 game. The second, two innings later, robbed Carlos Corporan of extra bases. It's important to note that while the final score of the game was 7-0 Oakland, both catches were contextually important since the score was 1-0 at the time.

Here are the two grabs:

Right fielder Josh Reddick, no stranger to amazing defensive plays, was in awe by what he saw from his teammate, telling Trevor Hass of MLB.com that, "The catch at the wall was something.I watched the replay, and it looked like he didn't even have his eyes on the ball when he jumped. That was pretty amazing right there."

Burns, by the way, leads American League rookies with 15 multi-hit games on the season aand is slashing .306/.346/.415 in 35 games.
