Arroyo pitches 3 perfect innings as Nats lose to Astros 4-3

VIERA, Fla. (AP) Bronson Arroyo boosted his comeback attempt with three perfect innings Thursday in the Washington Nationals' 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros.

The 39-year-old right-hander struck out three and walked none. The strikeouts were consecutive, with Arroyo retiring Mike Duffy, Preston Tucker and Jon Singleton in a stretch from the second to third innings.

In his first outing, Arroyo gave up two runs and four hits in two innings.

Arroyo has not pitched in the major leagues since 2014. He had Tommy John surgery in July 2014.

Houston's Marwin Gonzalez homered for the second straight day, a two-run drive in the fourth against Trevor Gott. The Astros have 15 homers in the exhibition season.

Astros starter Collin McHugh allowed two hits - both by Ben Revere - in three scoreless innings.
