Angels say goodbye to AA affiliate Arkansas Travelers
The Angels bid a farewell to the AA affiliate Arkansas Travelers who signed a two-year player development deal with the Seattle Mariners.
The Arkansas Travelers have been the Angels AA affiliate since the year 2001. Now, the Travelers have moved on from the Angels inking a deal with Seattle.
It would appear that former GM Jerry Dipoto is slowly becoming the crazy ex-girlfriend who steals friends away from her ex. Nevertheless, the Travelers are now with Seattle and the Halos are teaming up with the Bay Bears from Mobile Alabama.
This move might come as a shock for some, for other’s it’s just Dipoto exacting revenge on the Angels organization. Arkansasonline.com talked with Dipoto about the partnership:
“The Mariners look forward to working closely with our new partner. It is a franchise with great fans, a great staff and a great ballpark, as well as a long and storied history in professional baseball, dating back to 1901. Both organizations are committed to the community, good baseball and an entertaining ballpark experience.” -Jerry Dipoto.
The Bay Bears play at Hank Aaron stadium in Mobile Alabama. It’s a solid move for the Angels in the midst of the Travelers move. This move could provide an upgrade to the Angels farming system which has been weak in recent years.
Some may view this as a step back for the Halos. The probability this affects the Angels in the long-run is minimal. Now, if the Salt Lake Bees switched teams, that would be a different issue. The Travelers were members of the Texas League. The Bears are members of the Southern League.
Major League teams associated with the Southern League include the Twins, Cubs, Reds, Marlins, and Braves.
The details of this deal have yet to be released. The Angels will release a statement on the deal in the coming days. Stay with Halo Hangout for the latest.
