Angels DH Bobby Abreu ejected in 1st inning

Published Jul. 6, 2011 12:16 a.m. ET

Angels designated hitter Bobby Abreu has been ejected from Los Angeles' game against Detroit for arguing after a strikeout.

Abreu protested after umpire Angel Campos called him out on a pitch from Tigers ace Justin Verlander to end the first inning Tuesday night.

After a brief argument, Campos threw out Abreu, the Angels' No. 3 hitter. Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia and first-base coach Alfredo Griffin also argued with Campos about the ejection.

Abreu's ejection was the fifth of his career, and first since Aug. 8, 2007. No Angels player had been ejected this season.
