Alvarez in middle of learning curve at first base

Changing positions is never easy, especially at the Major League level.

While every team wants growing pains minimized, they are part of the process and Pedro Alvarez is currently experiencing them as he transitions across the diamond.

Alvarez spent the first four seasons of his career at third base, but has been playing first this season.

He's handled the adjustment fairly well, but there have been a few times where his inexperience has shown.

“I really think he still needs those game-speed repetitions,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle told Pirates.com. “It's getting to that point. … We've got something else in mind that we'll talk about internally. It may be some different nuances where the positioning can help.”
