A.M. Wahoo's: Kluber Gives Indians Best Chance to Win

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The World Series has come down to Game 7, and the Cleveland Indians are in great hands with Corey Kluber making his third start of the series.

Everything seemed so simple for the Cleveland Indians when Corey Kluber led the team to a 7-2 win in Game 4. The win put the Indians up 3-1 in the series, meaning the team had three chances to clinch the franchise’s first championship since 1948.

Well, two of those chances are now gone as the Indians prepare to take on the Chicago Cubs in an unexpected Game 7.

Some may think the Cubs have the Indians reeling, winning two straight, but there is no need for fans to worry.

Having Corey Kluber on the mound in Game 7 is something Terry Francona announced as a plan early on in the series. And with Kluber scheduled for starts in Games 1, 4 and 7, the Indians just needed to win all three of his starts and steal another game along the way.

His first two starts did indeed end in Indians victories, while a Game 2 victory provided the team with that elusive, non-Kluber win.

So here we are on the morning of another Game 7 for a Cleveland team, except this time the game is at home. The Indians have their ace on the mound, along with a rested Andrew Miller, Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw.

The offense has to do better than the two runs put up in Game 6, but the pitching should have the team in a position where three or four runs in enough for a victory.

But it all starts with Kluber, who is going on short rest for the second time in the World Series. It has not seemed to affect him thus far, making it through six innings in both Games 1 and 4.

Game 1 was a shutout victory, the Indians’ fifth this postseason. A sixth would add to the historical mark, and bring Cleveland another title. It is almost too nerve-wracking to even talk about, so let’s take a look at the news surrounding the Indians and the rest of the MLB in today’s edition of A.M. Wahoo’s.
