$12.5M settlement approved in Schilling's 38 Studios case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) A judge has approved a $12.5 million partial settlement in a lawsuit over Rhode Island's failed $75 million deal with former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company 38 Studios.

Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein on Friday approved the settlement by four defendants in the case: two former leaders of Rhode Island's economic development agency that struck the deal with Schilling's company, and one of the agency's lawyers and his law firm.

Schilling and others opposed the settlement, but the judge called it a good faith agreement and overruled their objections.

It's the second settlement in the case. The judge previously approved a $4.4 million deal by another lawyer and his firm.

The case continues against Schilling and others at the company, as well as others who were involved.
