VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) Chris Wood shot a front-nine 29 before overcoming a late run of bogeys to win the BMW PGA Championship for the biggest victory of his career on Sunday, as overnight leader Scott Hend imploded in the final round.
Wood held a four-stroke lead after making birdie at No. 11, but dropped shots on Nos. 14, 16 and 17 to trim his advantage to one going down the last. He parred the par-5 No. 18 for a 3-under 69 and 9-under 279, finishing a shot clear of Rikard Karlberg (65).
The 54th-ranked Wood's previous European Tour wins came in Qatar in 2013 and Austria last year.
