Tiger Woods announces he will not play the Masters at Augusta National

Tiger Woods is not playing the 2017 Masters at Augusta National, the golfer announced on Friday.

"Unfortunately, I won't be competing in this year's Masters. I did about everything I could to play, but my back rehabilitation didn't allow me the time to get tournament ready," Woods posted on his website. "I'm especially upset because it's a special anniversary for me that's filled with a lot of great memories. I can't believe it's been 20 years since I won my first green jacket."

Woods also said he "has no timetable for his return, but I will continue my diligent effort to recover, and want to get back out there as soon as possible."

The 41-year-old Woods has long battled injuries, taking a 15-month absence to return to competition at the Hero World Challenge to mixed results last December. He missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, and then withdrew from the Dubai Desert Classic after the first round in February due to back pain, which also caused him to withdraw from the Genesis Open later that month.

The four-time Masters winner said he was planning to attend the Champions Dinner on Tuesday.

The 2017 Masters at Augusta National tournament begins on April 6.
