A curious thing has happened to this decade of major championships. Where once it was assumed that an emphatic exclamation point would close this 10-year stretch, what is going to descend upon completion of the PGA Championship at Hazeltine National is a question mark.

To wit: Just how good has this decade been?

For years, this would have been scoffed at. It was the Tiger Woods era, after all -- one blanketed in history and incomparable performances. He opened the decade by moving alongside Ben Hogan, the only men to win three professional majors in a season. Then he stood alone, the only one to run off four in a row. He won at least one major in each of the first four years of the decade.

Woods not only was going to surpass Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 professional majors, but he was on a pace to do it in this decade. He was winning by 15 and by 8, on links and in parklands, in playoffs and under the glow of moonlight.
