AKRON, Ohio (AP) Steve Stricker stopped playing the British Open in 2013 to spend more time with his family. Now he's going over to Scotland for two weeks.
Stricker earned a spot in the British Open three weeks ago when he tied for second in the FedEx St. Jude Classic, where four spots in the Open were available. Sunday at Royal Troon is his wedding anniversary, and he wasn't sure he would go.
The 49-year-old American not only is going, he planned to leave on Saturday to play the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart.
Stricker says he wanted to play The Greenbrier Classic until it was canceled because of the West Virginia flooding. He says he won't get a chance to play many more majors at his age and doesn't want to miss it.
