The Scottish Open will keep its slot on the European Tour schedule as the warm-up tournament ahead of the British Open for at least the next four years after retaining its title sponsor.

Investment firm Aberdeen Asset Management will stay on as the sponsor of the event through 2017, providing a major boost to a tour which is struggling to attract funding in some countries in a tough economic climate.

The Scottish Open will continue to be held a week before the Open and on links courses, with the prize fund gradually increasing from its current level of 3 million pounds ($4.5 million) to 3.5 million pounds ($5.3 million) in 2017.

It will be staged at Royal Aberdeen in 2014 before returning to its current home of Castle Stuart in Inverness in one of the following three years, most likely 2016. The venues for the other two years haven't been decided.
