Russell Knox hits three balls in the water on disastrous hole

Published May. 15, 2016 9:23 a.m. ET

Russell Knox came to the 17th tee Saturday at TPC Sawgrass at 7-under par and safely inside the top 10 of the Players Championship - but three errant tee shots into the island green later, he had plummeted down the leaderboard with a sextuple bogey nine.

With the pin in the front left section of the green, Knox left his opening shot just short and followed it up with a horrendous shank. He re-teed the ball a third time and came up short. Knox carded a nine and bogeyed the final hole for a third round score of 80, dropping him to even par for the tournament. Knox tried to keep a positive outlook and even made fun of himself on Twitter after the round.
