Ever the interesting figure, popular golfer John Daly recently told the Charlotte Observer that drinking heavily didn't interfere with his game.
"I was happy when I was a miserable drunk," Daly deadpanned to columnist Ron Green Jr. while at a book signing on Monday. "I played better when I was drunk."
Far removed from the days that saw him win the PGA Championship in 1991 and the 1995 British Open, Daly is languishing in relative anonymity. His last win in the U.S. came at the Buick Open in 2004.
Since then, Daly has been known more for his off-course antics, including an incident two years ago when he was found drunk and uncooperative in a Hooters restaurant parking lot. He now claims to have quit drinking.
