Nike announces it will stop making golf clubs and balls
Nike Golf sponsors two of the most popular athletes in the world in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, but they may in the process of finding new clubs after Nike announced Wednesday that the company will "transition out" of making clubs, balls and bags.
Via Nike Golf:
Tiger Woods switched over to using Nike drivers and irons in 2002 (he previously used Titleist clubs), and Rory McIlroy was heavily criticized by analysts for his switch to Nike clubs in early 2013. McIlroy struggled early in the year and didn't win a PGA Tour event all season. Nike also provides clubs for LPGA star Michelle Wie.
Adidas found itself in a similar position earlier this year, as the company looked to sell TaylorMade and instead focus on making golf apparel.
Sad to hear about those @nikegolf who lost jobs today. #family
