LPGA Tees Off First Major Of Year
The Kraft Nabisco Championship celebrates its 40th anniversary as the LPGA tees it up for the first major championship of the year. Held at Mission Hill Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, California, this tournament was first played in 1972 and became a major championship in 1983. World #1 Yani Tseng will be among the field of top professionals and amateurs in this year’s field and is the defending champion. Last year, Tseng defeated Suzann Petterson by one stroke to claim her second major title and take the ceremonial leap of victory into Poppie’s Pond, a brave move since she doesn’t know how to swim. For Petterson, it was once again another disappointing 2nd place finish, her third at this tournament in four years. Joining Tseng, Petterson and a host of top LPGA professionals this year will be five amateur invitees including Pepperdine University’s Danielle Kang, USC’s Lisa McCloskey, current Mid-Amateur Champion Meghan Stasi, collegiate standout Cydney Clanton and high school senior, Kristen Park, a five-time Rolex All-American. FOX Sports will present expanded coverage of this year’s event as the LPGA’s best compete for one of the most prestigious titles on tour.
