French Open champion Thomas Levet was a major doubt Tuesday to tee off at this month's British Open after fracturing his shin as he splashed out in celebration of the win in Paris.
The Frenchman suffered the minor break when he hurled himself into the lake at Le Golf National, minutes after holing out to a home victory at the tournament near Versailles on Sunday.
The injury forced the 42-year-old to pull out of this week's Scottish Open and face a nervous wait ahead of the trip to Royal St. George's in Sandwich, southeastern England, for the start of the British Open on July 14.
Levet was fitted with a cast on his leg and will receive "intensive treatment" to the fracture before consulting with a specialist, his management company IMG confirmed in a statement.
"He will, of course, be doing everything he can to tee up at The Open," the statement added.
