CHONBURI, Thailand -- Marcus Fraser of Australia chipped in for birdie on the 18th hole for a 3-under 69 Thursday to join a group of four player sharing the lead after the first round of the Thailand Golf Championship.

Local player Thanyakorn Khrongpha, Richard Lee of Canada and Lu Wei-chih of Taiwan were also tied atop the leaderboard at the Asian Tour event, one shot ahead of a trio that included 2011 champion Lee Westwood.

The 36-year-old Fraser missed most of the year with a wrist injury, and got a bit lucky on the 18th when his drive bounced across a cart path but landed in a good lie.

Westwood had the best round among the star names at the event, with Sergio Garcia shooting and Martin Kaymer both shooting a 71.
