Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, a member of Augusta National Golf Club, said he would allow "plenty of women" to join if he ran the club.
"I'm not telling the group at Augusta what to do, but if I were running the club I'd have plenty of women," the Berkshire Hathaway chairman said Saturday in an interview on Bloomberg Television, following his company's annual meeting in Omaha, Neb.
Augusta National's male-only membership policy was called into question this year after IBM appointed a woman, Virginia Rometty, as its new CEO. The club has previously offered membership to IBM's past four CEOs, who were all men.
Buffett, whose company owns a 5.5 percent stake in IBM, told Bloomberg that although he would prefer having female members, he does not serve on the committee that decides the issue.
President Barack Obama and his Republican rival Mitt Romney have also indicated that they support changing the club's membership policy to allow women to join as members.
